The good ole fashioned fly swatter

There’s always the age old remedy of the fly swatter. Most of us grew up with them and that’s the go-to solution for just about everybody. If nothing else works, grab that fly swatter.

I don’t particularly enjoy hunting them down or killing them, nor do I really like the fly guts that they leave behind.

Some things I’ve tried

Our go to solution, but not the best way, is to put a drop or two of dishwashing soap in a water bottle of then spray that on them wherever you see them. While there are no fly guts, sometimes they still get away if your aim isn’t the best. Adjust your spray and get a little closer before you pull the trigger for a better chance to get ’em.

I hate to keep fighting to keep them out or dead…it’s a struggle…

John Bittle

Fly swat, it they weren’t so messy I’d an assalt weapon! The gun that shoots salt!

Chris Ward

Window sticker fly traps are the best thing I have found. You can buy them at amazon or Walmart and they are way cheaper than the little plug in lights. They might look gross but just tear them off or put you blinds down when you have company. Hope this helps.

I need one of those strong fans like grocery stores have when the door opens..it blows air to keep them out…we try everything and they find their way in

Pine Sol diluted in a spray bottle works great. Spray around your doors and on porch mats. Flies hate the smell.

How to get rid of your old and used stuff

As people have more money to spend, we find more things to buy, and end up with more things than we know what to do with and less space to store it all.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. One that we often don’t recognize because

  1. there isn’t much attention focused on it, and
  2. it’s slow growing.

Here, we list a variety of solutions that you can use to help turn some of your old items into cash. Some are tried and true, some newer solutions and one solution that solves allot of the problems that the other existing options fail to address.

SELL YOUR STUFF IN THE RUSSELLVILLE STORE

We have a muti-faceted solution that is FREE, easy and allows you to get rid of your used items even if they don’t sell. You can meet local people as well as make a little extra money and a great place for businesses to market themselves and sell their items.

YARD SALES

If you live in town or know someone who does, you can sell your stuff at a yard sale. Yard sales are a great way to earn a little extra money, get rid of stuff you no longer need, and keep stuff out of the land fill.

If you have a yard sale, feel free to list it in the comment section at the bottom of this post or here in the comment section.

PROS:

  1. Earn extra money
  2. Get rid of used stuff
  3. Have fun and meet new people

CONS:

  1. take allot of work
  2. don’t often sell everything
  3. only useful for people who live in town or near a populated street
  4. often a mess to clean up.

ETSY, MARKETPLACE, EBAY

I lumped these all together because they have many of the same advantages and disadvantages. Visit ETSY.COM, EBAY.COM or the FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE to sell your stuff now.

PROS:

  1. Have more reach than yard sales
  2. Often have low listing fees
  3. Sell your stuff for more than you would at yard sales.

CONS:

  1. Takes time taking photos and creating listings.
  2. Shipping items can be time consuming or expensive
  3. Meeting new people can be risky and takes time out of your way.
  4. People who create listings, often drop and run, never visiting the site to answer questions or shop themselves, so while these groups have allot of members, traffice is limited to only people creating listings, not people shopping
  5. Shoppers can’t always find what you’re looking for
  6. Things for sale are often over priced.
  7. Listing fees are often cheap but can be expensive.
  8. Sites are becoming full of scammers and spammers and untrust worthy listings.

JUNK SALES

If you don’t live in town, you can use junk sales like Bargains Galore, or other similar options.

PROS:

  1. Have more reach than yard sales.
  2. No listing fees if you can find space along the highway.
  3. Provide higher visibility than yard sales.

CONS:

  1. People are finding ways to gouge sellers for land looking to sell their items
  2. Slows traffic dramatically along the highway.
  3. They are an eye sore.
  4. Items are often over priced.
  5. Shoppers can’t always find what they’re looking for
  6. Disorganization and time consuming to shop.

THROW IT AWAY OR RECYCLE

I would say this is the worst of option, but it’s quick and easy.

PROS:

  1. Quickly gets rid of un-needed/unwanted items.
  2. The fastest way to solve the problem of unwanted things.

CONS:

  1. Fills the landfills
  2. Bad for the environment.
  3. Lost opportunity to turn items into cash.

DONATE

A good solution if you have items that a charity can use or sell.

PROS:

  1. Quickly gets rid of un-needed/unwanted items.
  2. Can help local charities raise money for projects or needs.

CONS:

  1. Don’t always want the items we need to get rid of and end up as trash.
  2. Lost opportunity to turn unwanted items into cash.
  3. Not all places take unwanted items and times to accept unwanted items are often restrictive.

DON’T BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE

Probably the best solution, is to avoid the problem in the first place. If you can think ahead and decide you don’t really need it, this is by far the very best solution and one we should all practice.

PROS:

  1. Keeps things out of landfills.
  2. No need to sell items, list them or discard of them.
  3. Keeping your cash in your pocket is the most cost effective solution as you can almost never sell the item for what you paid for it.

CONS:

  1. Not really any cons except no marketplace created for income opportunities.

Mie Tek-Tek Fried Noodles

A take out plate of Mei Tek-Tek Noodles from Spices Food Truck

I recently visited the Spices Garuda Food Truck in Russellville, AR, and wanted to share my experience and the meal. They are located kind of across the street from the Walmart Neighborhood Market for those who might now be familiar with them.

It was lunchtime, 12:20 pm to get exact when I arrived at the truck to place my order and the service at the window was prompt and super friendly.

The menu on the truck is vast and has plenty of options ranging from fried noodles to fried rice, spring rolls, hibachi, and more. Many of the options come with your choice or beef, chicken, tofu, or shrimp. So definitely something for everyone when it comes to proteins.

They did appear to be busy preparing call-in orders that were ahead of us so our order took about 20 minutes, but that was fine because it was hot and fresh when the buzzer went off and I picked it up at the window.

So if you want to try them, and you have time restraints because of a lunch break then definitely call in your order so it will be ready when you get there to pick it up.

I ordered the Mei Tek-Tek (Fried Noodles) with shrimp. It already has tofu and then you can choose from the beef, chicken, or shrimp like I did.

The saucy noodles came with lots of veggies. pieces of tofu and shrimp, and a heart-shaped fried egg on top. As far as shrimp, the only thing I will say is that I wish there had been a little more to make the protein a little higher.

The shrimp come cut up into smaller pieces, so you definitely get some scattered throughout the noodles, I just felt like there should have been a bit more, but the flavor of the noodles was amazing and I was very happy with my lunch choice.

I don’t remember the price of eggs exactly but I believe it was around $13 or $14 again, I can’t remember exactly because my order was combined with another person’s that was there with me and I don’t remember seeing a receipt.

Four Spring Rolls from Spices Food Truck.

I also tried an order of spring rolls which you can get with or without meat so I chose the veggie options, which didn’t disappoint.

You can choose between 3 or 5 I believe, so I ordered the 3 pieces to share with my son, and they were super nice and through in a 4th one. They were hot and very tasty, and the crispy crunchy outside was so satisfying. Yum!

With the delicious food and friendly service at the window, I will return for another lunch day in the future and hope you will give them a try as well.

If you do please tag me on social media or here if you share about your food too. You can tag me by using @mytableofthree!

Update: I’ve also tried their Shrimp Fried Rice if you want to check out that review, you can click HERE.

Camarones Mexicanos

We ate out for dinner at Morelos in Russellville. I admit, I was hungry, but this was delicious. The price wasn’t bad either.

We sat down to eat, got a generous portion of chips to start the meal and within just a few minutes, our food was brought out hot and fast.

Morelos always provide great portions too. Mine was very filling, but my wife and son opted for Special fries with shrimp, appetizers, but were not as hefty as mine.

The chips and salsa are always good, but were not the best I’ve had, however, they are always very generous with their chips and never hesitate to bring out more chips when the “chips are down”. Pun very much intended.

Prices are good too. For a shrimp meal and 2 appetizer plates, our total was less than $40. Add tip and it was easily under $50 for 3. Oh and we all had water. I never get a drink unless it’s provided in the price, and even then I prefer water.

And as far as service goes, they are always very kind and friendly. Morelos is always a special treat.

Fried Shrimp Lunch at Brangus

I took other photos, but this was the best of them all.

Shrimp is not my favorite, but it was a good choice during lent.

The atmosphere is always good at Brangus. You got the peanuts, which were actually very tasty today. I guess I was hungry because I’m not usually a fan of peanuts.

The shrimp was actually very good. They were nice and big pieces, 8 total, which was great for a hungry guy like me at the time.

My sides were ranch style beans and green beans. I thought they were both very good, but just sides. The beans had a good ranch flavor, and the green beans, were just typical green beans. Better than I can make at home, but nothing fancy.

Our server was good. We were talking business, so she didn’t come by too often, but made sure we had plenty of water and tea.

Overall, the food and service were good. Like always, a good experience and a good choice for lunch.
